The world
Colour is more than what we see, it's something we feel. Chromatic States is inspired by the relationship between colour and emotion and explores how light, sound and architecture influence our perception. Unfolding across Outernet’s Now Trending and Arcade spaces, the experience is inspired by the works of artists such as James Turrell, who is considered the ‘master of light’, and has been carefully designed to create a sensory journey that connects physically and emotionally with audiences through three distinct emotional states: Tension, Float and Wonder.
Tension opens the journey with warm reds, oranges and pinks, cutting through angular shapes. The atmosphere is charged with the feeling of anticipation. Float carries you into turquoise, teal and aquatic tones, rippling through circular forms. It's effortless and calm. Lastly, Wonder pulls you forward into the unknown; indigo, violet and electric blue in subtle symmetry. It is the feeling of discovering something you cannot quite name.
Together, the three states form one continuous emotional loop. Each one has its own visual language, but the experience is designed to move seamlessly between them, constantly shifting and evolving as people move through the space.
The shift
Behavioural Scientist and Author Patrick Fagan commented on the immersive experience. “The senses have a profound effect on our emotional state - to the point that they are almost one and the same.
